Birthday Celebrations in Malawi

There was joyous celebration of William Stewart’s 90th birthday in Chitipa on Monday 25th September, when gifts of stationery sent to the Foundation from the UK were presented to the orphans.

There were over 500 children there to join in the day, about 60 of whom were orphans who received gifts from the Primary Education Advisor for the Chisenga region who was the guest of honour. Also present were some Chiefs of the area and teachers.

The Malawian press had been invited and representatives from The Nyasa Times, The Times, Malawi, and the Malawi Star were present to witness the celebrations.

We are making an album of the photos and videos which were taken on the day, and will have links to the newspaper articles.

It is sad that William was not able to be with us on his special day but we are sure that the photos of the event will show him how much he is thought of in Malawi, and not only William, but all the generous people in the UK who have donated gifts to the children. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

On Tuesday 26th, we continued the celebrations – this time for the birthday of William’s daughter, Mary – or Aunt as we call her – when we went to Chambo Health Centre. We handed out gifts of soap and sugar to the patients, including to four ladies in the maternity ward whose babies had just been born, and explained that we were there to honour Aunt Mary.
